Introduction:

What words can you associate with the title of the lesson “La familia”?
Do you remember the family members en Español?

The introduction is just for you to become familiar with the topic, don’t look up the words you don’t remember. You might remember them once you watch the video.

Watch Los Serrano – Episode 1 (first 3 minutes only) and choose the right answer:

¿Quién está hablando? – Who is talking?

  • Es el hermano mayor
  • Es el hermano mediano
  • Es el hermano más chico/pequeño

There are many words you won’t understand from the video, don’t worry! It is a good idea to familiarise you with the sound of native speakers even when you can’t understand everything, the exercises that follow won’t ask you questions like… what did she say? The idea is to train you little by little to overcome the barrier of “I can’t do that ‘cause I don’t know enough!”. You will understand more and more if you keep listening to Spanish speakers whether they are native speakers or not.
The aim of the exercise is to practise listening so try to do it and don’t worry too much if you don’t have all the answers. Try to do it again in a couple of days after you checked the vocabulary related to the family.

Watch Los Serrano – Episode 1 (first 3 minutes only) again and answer:

Example: hermano / es el hermano / etc

  1. ¿Quién es Guille?
  2. ¿Quién es Marcos?
  3. ¿Quién es Santiago?
  4. ¿Quién es Lucía?
  5. ¿Quién es Eva?
  6. ¿Quién es Teté?
If you have trouble answering the questions, here you have the answers, you just need to match them with the correct question:
  1. Es el hermano mayor
  2. Es el hermano mediano
  3. Es la hermana mayor
  4. Es la hermana
  5. Es la madre / Es la esposa de Diego
  6. Es el tio / Es el hermano de Diego
This is the time to use the dictionary to check words you didn’t understand. Try the exercise again in a couple of days and see if you can answer more questions – if you didn’t get all of them.
